Using i-movie, I have produced a small video of some of the projection work I have created. I experimented with different slide transactions and effects to see what I could come up with. I definitely do no doubt that this isn't one of my strongest videos and I think I could have done more to make the transitions between the slides blend more smoothly but this was just to get an idea of which projections would work well together within a video and so on. I also tried to capture some stills of the video in action, and really like the bright and vibrant colour within these projections, and also the blurred colour burst.

Resolume Avenue 4
Resolume Avenue 4 is a Video Djing software which is able to play multiple layers of virtual videos which can be synced with live inputs and mixing desks so that audio and visual files can be combined. I knew from early on that this would be something I would ideally like to use within my final piece, however I did find the software quite tricky to get to grips with. If using this process within my final piece, I would obviously use my own images within the video but as the software wouldn't accept some of my newly photoshopped images that I had been currently working with due to them being to high quality, to test out a short demonstration of the software I instead collected some images which inspired me. Below is a video clipping of a video I produced, and also some stills.

Digital Projections
I hired out a Digital Projector and started to experiment with it. Projecting some of my heavily edited photographs from the Blackpool trip, I combined a piece of my lazer cutting to create the hexagon shape shadows. I really like the build up of layers within these photographs and also the way the projection has been captured on the wooden lazer cutting making the photographs three dimensional. I like the outcome of these projections and will definitely continue to carry on this method throughout my work.

Projecting Acetate
As I had previously worked in projecting colour in liquid form, I know wanted to project my work in coloured photograph forms. As i wasn't too sure how to go about this just yet, for now I bought some coloured acetate and cut it up to start playing around with the composition. I do like these even though I feel like the colours throughout are irrelevant to my colour theme, however hopefully I will be able to print some of my projections and photographs onto acetate to use instead.
Over Head Projecting
Liquid Light Show
After luckily enough being able to hire out an over head projector from uni, I started to experiment with new techniques and process that were the opposite from digital as I wanted to lead a more creative process. One technique that I had previously heard of and found interesting was the Liquid Light Show. This simply involved a glass dish, some oil and food colouring. To create this effect I dropped the dyes into the glass dish and started to record to projection whilst at the same time moving the dish about. Even though I do not think the colour choices are ideal nor eye pleasing, this was just a demonstration and if I was to take this technique forward, I would consider changing the colours to more appropriate to my colour scheme.

Experimenting With El Wire
I really liked the idea of working with el wire after viewing Elizabeth Winstanleys exhibition. I ordered some el wire and begun to experiment with it. I have documented this by placing the el wire in various positions onto one of my turntables and then adjusting the speed whilst taking the photographs/and videos to capture the light in different movement stages. I quite like this idea and would definitely like to continue using el wire within my work.

David Boultbee
David Boultbee is the creator of Bread Art Collective. using light, sound and simple technologies with a strong social focus to create works which gently ask you to stop for a moment and take in your surroundings in the hope that people will notice something new.
Based in the North West of England, inspired by spaces, the public realm and the humour of creating the unexpected and seemingly impossible. He develops and delivers exciting and ambitious projects in collaborating with funders, partners and participants.
Within Davids work, he engages multi-sensory experiences, often integrating visual and audible elements, that invite discovery and encourage audience interactively with both the work and each other. One of latest of david's installations which he shown us in todays workshop was an exciting, dynamic piece of work commissioned by Coca-Cola that celebrates how the nation spreads positivity and optimism on social media. the work is constructed from a series of cubes showing the top twenty positive words used on twitter. A direct connection to twitter using Arduino, which I will later go into more detail about allows a real time response and lights up the words based on the numbers of tweets being sent around containing them. The installation also included light-boxes displaying photographs, dozen of glass Coca-Cola bottles whilst exploring the patterns, textures, shadows and shapes created when lighting up these iconic designs.
Even though I didn't find David Boultbee's work relevant to what I wanted to do, one thing that he did touch up on that really interested me was Arduino. Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy to use hardware and software. It is intended for artists, designers and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can effect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors and other actuators.
In the afternoon workshop, we got to play around with Arudino kits and software. We used a website called codebender.cc which David uses himself and looked at codes which he had written and how we could manipulate these or use within our own work. After a stressful hour or so of trying to get my head around the software I successfully managed to light up the LEDs, get them to flash, flash randomly, and even do a morse code flasher. I am going to be taking one of these kits home with me for the easter holidays to experiment with and see if I can bring this into my own work.

"My practice involves the construction of installations and structures with mixed media that are then imaged using photographic processes. A fusion between the hand-made and the digital create landscapes reminiscent of science fictional worlds. The work has the potential to be utilized with a number of different contexts; either as large scale imaged-based installations, or digitally printed fashion fabrics."
Being a fellow textiles student at manchester school of art herself, i really liked the way she has displayed her work in digital processes. This is very mixed media based which I enjoy doing and would like to work with heavily manipulated photographs and projections within my work through this project. So could be great starting point to collect together some of my photographs and start to make a large wall piece and maybe even project/draw onto.

David Ogle Workshop
" Much of my work to date has dealt with exploring notions of materiality, of permanence and of the perception of objects in space. using light as a sculptural medium, my work is innately ephemeral. it begins as a set of strict mathematical procedures that are played out within an environment. the space simultaneously shapes the work and becomes manipulated by it."
David Ogle.
I found todays workshop with David Ogle really inspiring. the way he used simple thin materials such as fishing line but on a huge and mathematical scale, illuminating this with ultra violet lights to create this lazer light effect. Due to the lightness of these materials, they can also be scaled up and down easily within a space to adapt it to the environment. One thing I found fascinating about David Ogle was the way be could really change the concept of a space and change the way people encounter it. He uses run down warehouses and unused spaces and turns it into something amazing.
David also gave a load of great advice within this workshop, which was to always have a venue in mind before creating a piece, so that you are able to determine what your capable of doing within that space and to plan as much as possible weather it is making small models of your piece to work with.
After David Ogle's workshop, we was set a small 15 minute task to create an instillation and adapt it to the environment we were in. Most students decided to leave the room to look for spaces else were, but me and a fellow student decided to collaborate and work with the heated floor board. As most of the materials we had were neon colours or involved lighting, this was a great place to create our installation as it was very dark. The piece consisted of shot glasses, neon straws, glow sticks and el wire. I liked the way that unless you walked right over the installation you weren't able to see what was inside. and a lot of the other students were surprised when they actually got closer and looked within. considering we only had 15 minutes or so to make this piece we definitely did a good job at adapting it to the environment we were given and can see myself continuing to use the shot glasses and lighting throughout my work.

Illustration and Lazer Cutting
Unfortunately I was only able to get one piece of lazer cutting done, due to this being fully booked up until the deadline. This wasn't too much of a disappointment as I had previously used the lazer cutter quite a bit in mixed media. However I would have really like to combine the lazer cutting within my final piece on a large scale to layer up ontop of my work.
I then decided to look at more optical illusion like images which i would have liked to lazer cut in layers onto transparent acrylic and then layer infront of my work to project through. instead i am now going to look at getting these deisgns printed onto acetate and projecting over my work to give a similar effect.
